Rotarians flocked to the richly storied Manila Hotel on November 28 for the annual testimonial dinner in honor of the year’s contributors to The Rotary Foundation. Among those recognized were PDG Sid & Tesha Garcia, who recently upgraded their major donor ranking to Level 2.
But this was no ordinary TRF Dinner – it was a milestone event in that it took place on the 100th anniversary of the birth of The Rotary Foundation. Hence the tag, “Centennial Dinner.” To drive home the point even deeper, it was held at the Manila Hotel’s Centennial Hall. The TRF, as we well know, was created in 1917 as an endowment fund “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” A brainchild of then RI President Arch Klumph, it started with a contribution of US$26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas.
Our Club played a role in the event, with Pres. David Ackerman playing emcee, IPDG Pepito Bengzon handing out the TRF awards, and PDG Sid playing the role of introducer of the guest of honor, PRID Michael Johns. Also present at the event were PRID Paing Hechanova, Dir. Louie Aseoche, Dir. Boy Arteche, and First Ann Mache Ackerman.
Significantly, the Club received recognition for its remarkable achievements in TRF giving in RY 2015-2016--No. 1 Club in per capita giving to the Annual Fund in RY 2015-2016; 100% Sustaining Member Club; and 100% member participation in the US$100 per capita giving campaign.
This year, the Club has so far logged US$ 15,500 in additional contributions from 17 new Paul Harris Fellows, including two new major donors: PDG Sid and Cesar Cruz, Level 1. The Club’s total giving currently stands at US$1,953,724.64, placing our per capita giving at US$14,472 on a member count of 135.
