The Club launched last Saturday, December 10, a new wave of the “Stop TB Now” program, this time involving not just our club but six other clubs in District 3830—RC Fort Bonifacio Global City represented by Pres. Bea Tan, RC Makati Business District by Pres. Michelle Montecon, RC Muntinlupa by Pres. Ritchie de Guzman, RC Muntinlupa North by Pres. Elvie Quiazon, RC Palanyag Paranaque by Pres. Mithor Singson and RC Paranaque Poblacion, represented by Pres. Paolo Valdez.
The launch was graced by District Governor Edna Sutter who delivered an inspirational message where she thanked RC Makati and Pres. David Ackerman for sharing the Club’s resources with other clubs in the district, thanked the parents for enrolling their children in the program while enlisting their commitment to ensuring that their children will complete the six-month medical treatment protocol which is set for completion in June 2017.
PDG Tony Quila, who heads both the Stop TB Now and the TRF Grants Committees, gave an overview of the Club’s long-term effort at eradicating the disease, an advocacy that started in earnest in 1986, while Dr. Lilian Rosario, medical consultant from the University of Perpetual Help Medical Center, spoke of tuberculosis, its characteristics, causes, symptoms, and treatment, hammering down the imperativeness of the children’s taking the cocktail of medicines every day, without fail, for six months to ensure that they will be cured.
Other speakers were PE Jun Jun Dayrit who delivered a welcome message, Community Service Dir. Chris Ferareza, who gave the closing remarks, and Pres. Bea Tan, who delivered the opening prayer. Pres. Mithor Singson and Pres. Michelle Mantecon shared the stage as emcees.
This leg of the program covers 360 children in school- and community-based modules in eight (8) sites, including Calapan, Oriental Mindoro where treatment for some 117 children will begin on Friday, December 16. The project, which will be overseen and managed by our Club, is funded by a US$85,000 TRF global grant made possible with a contribution from our matched club and international partner, RC Taoyuan that was applied for and received by the Club last year. Other partners in this leg are Kabisig ng Kalahi headed by Ms. Vicky Wieneke and the Punta Fuego Village Foundation Inc, represented by Marilou Dinoy.
As in all such product launches, the parents/guardians pledged their support of the program, and program partners affixed their signatures on the memorandum of agreement binding them into a cooperative circle—RCM, Kabisig, Pediatrica, supplier of medicines represented by District Manager Ryan Jimenez, and Punta Fuego Village Association.
The children were treated to a puppet and magic show and to lunch, and were given a loaf each of Gardenia bread, courtesy of Gardenia, through the efforts of Pres. Nene Callanga and juice courtesy of Pres. Bea Tan of RC Fort Bonifacio Global City. The children’s excitement peaked when they received Christmas presents from our Last Angel project which this year is chaired by Ann Dellie Yap. Our thanks, too, to Pres. Nitz Magsino of RC Makati Nielsen for bringing along a videographer to record the event for posterity.
Other RC Makati members in attendance were PP Rene & Lu Limjoco, Dir. Philip Soliven, Dir./Treas. Bom Villatuya and Ai-Ai Galvez.
